Measuring CIMT by Ultrasound

The Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT)test is different than Carotid ultrasound tests completed at hospitals and by outfits like Lifeline screening (carotid doppler or duplex). Those tests look for clogged arteries. They report only individuals with blockages exceeding 50%.

Unfortunately, 68% of heart attacks and strokes occur in people who had less than 50% blockage up until a few minutes before their heart attack and stroke. CIMT identifies those with blockage, but also Individuals with mild inflammation (a pre-curser to atherosclerotic plaque)
